Reducing the stress of travel through frictionless interaction

Controlling ambient noise and assuring effective communication directly influences the overall experience for both passengers and employees.

Reducing the stress of travel with frictionless interactions is essential to attaining world-class status as not only a travel hub, but a destination of distinction. Acoustic design is a “whole-building” discipline that revolves around three basic challenges: providing intelligibility, enhancing speech privacy, and eliminating internal and external noise and vibration.

Cerami sees the primary acoustical goals for transportation facility projects as the creation of the desired acoustical environment and the control of ambient noise due to the disparate sources of patrons and building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services. The key challenge is servicing in an unobtrusive, cost-effective, and practical manner. We work closely with the Client, Architect, and Engineer to assure that the goals are achieved.

One of the concerns in the design of airline terminals and transportation hubs is the ability to interface the paging system requirements within the ever-changing ambient noise of the space. Special attention is required when addressing ambient noise, and sensing devices for enhanced audio intelligibility, not to mention the interface with the visual displays, both for ADA compliance and Flight Information Display Systems (FIDS). Our experienced audiovisual department pays close attention to the pre-recorded announcement systems and the ability to modify and add messages, either on the fly or through a service company.

The pace of technological advancement dictates that we strive for maximum flexibility, capacity, and standards compliance in all infrastructure design. Throughout the process, we constantly refine our decisions about specific equipment and software, as technology evolves. Achieving reliability of critical IT networks and security systems in accordance with the client’s budget and schedule requires informed and objective analysis, evaluation, and optimization of the design to achieve desired performance in the most cost-effective manner.
